Junk Removal vs. Dumpster Rental: Which One Do You Actually Need?
March 3, 2026 · Ranger TrashThis is probably the most common question we get: "Should I just rent a dumpster, or do you guys come out and haul everything?" Both services exist for good reasons — they're just right for different situations.
Choose Junk Removal When...
- You want it gone fast — we come to you, load it up, and it's done in one visit
- You don't want to do any lifting or sorting yourself
- You have a mix of items — furniture, appliances, electronics, tires — anything goes
- You're doing a one-time cleanout of a room, garage, or full home
- You have items that can't go in a dumpster (hazardous materials, freon appliances, etc.)
Choose a Dumpster Rental When...
- You're working on a project over several days — a renovation, roofing job, or big cleanout
- You want to load at your own pace without scheduling around a crew
- You have a large volume of similar debris — like shingles, drywall, or yard waste
- You're a contractor who needs a container on-site throughout a job
The Honest Answer
For most homeowners doing a one-time cleanout, junk removal is the easier and often more cost-effective choice — especially for smaller loads. You only pay for the space you use, and you don't lift a finger. Dumpster rental shines when you need flexibility and have a high-volume project running over multiple days.
Still not sure? Give us a call and we'll point you in the right direction — no pressure.

February 14, 2026 · Ranger TrashWe offer two sizes — a 15-yard and a 30-yard — and choosing the wrong one is one of the most common mistakes people make when renting a dumpster.
Think in Truck Beds, Not Cubic Yards
Cubic yards don't mean much to most people. Here's a simpler way to think about it: a standard 8-foot pickup truck bed holds about 2.5 cubic yards of material. So:
- 15-yard dumpster ≈ 6 pickup truck beds
- 30-yard dumpster ≈ 12 pickup truck beds
When to Choose the 15-Yard ($450)
The 15-yard is our most popular rental and works great for: single-room renovations, roofing tear-offs (it's actually the preferred size for residential roofing in our area), garage or basement cleanouts, yard debris and landscaping projects, and small demo work.
When to Choose the 30-Yard ($550)
Go with the 30 for larger projects: full home renovation or cleanout, major additions or demolition, commercial projects, or any job where you genuinely expect to fill more than 6 truck beds of material.
When in doubt, the 15-yard handles the vast majority of residential jobs in Beaufort County. Contact us if you're still unsure — we're happy to help you pick the right size.

Book a Pickup5 Things to Do Before Your Junk Removal Crew Arrives
January 10, 2026 · Ranger TrashA little prep before we show up makes the whole job go smoother — and in some cases it can keep your price down by reducing the time we spend on-site.
1. Walk Through and Decide What's Going
Make a clear decision on every item before we arrive. The more decisive you are, the faster we can work. It helps to walk room by room and mentally tag everything that's leaving.
2. Create a Clear Path to the Items
If items are buried behind other stuff, clear a path so we can get to them efficiently. This is especially important for garage cleanouts and basement hauls.
3. Give Us a Heads Up on Heavy or Bulky Items
Hot tubs, gun safes, pianos, and riding mowers all require extra planning. Let us know when you book so we bring the right equipment and crew size.
4. Note Any Stairs or Access Challenges
Multi-story homes, narrow hallways, and gated properties can affect how we work and may carry additional fees. Just let us know upfront — no surprises that way.
5. Separate Anything You're Keeping
Once we start moving, things move fast. If there are items you want to keep near things you're tossing, physically move the keepers out of the area beforehand.

Book NowWhy a 15-Yard Dumpster Is the Right Call for Most Roofing Jobs in Our Area
December 5, 2025 · Ranger TrashWhen local roofers and homeowners call us about a tear-off, they often assume they need the bigger 30-yard. In almost every case, the 15-yard is the right call — and we'll tell you exactly why.
How Much Do Shingles Actually Weigh?
A standard bundle of asphalt shingles weighs about 60–80 lbs. A typical 2,000 sq ft residential roof uses roughly 20–25 squares, which means you're looking at 60–75 bundles — somewhere in the range of 4,000–6,000 lbs of shingles alone.
The 15-Yard Covers It
Our 15-yard dumpster includes 2 tons (4,000 lbs) and holds approximately 6 pickup truck beds of material. For most standard residential roofing jobs in Beaufort County, this is plenty. If your roof is especially large or steep with multiple layers of old shingles, we can talk through whether an upgrade makes sense.
Don't Overpay for Space You Won't Use
The 30-yard is built for major renovation projects and full home cleanouts. Using it for a standard roof tear-off means you're paying for 12 truck beds of capacity when you only need 6. The 15-yard saves you $100 upfront and is easier to place in a typical residential driveway.

What Is an Estate Cleanout?

- We take everything, including furniture, appliances, clothing, and miscellaneous items
- We're respectful of the space and the situation
- We can coordinate multiple trips for very large properties

October 22, 2025 · Ranger TrashWe get this question often — and we love it. Keeping usable items out of the landfill is something we genuinely care about. The short answer is: yes, whenever it's possible.
What We Try to Donate
If furniture or household items are in good condition — clean, functional, not broken — we'll do our best to route them to local donation centers and organizations in the Lowcountry rather than sending them to the dump.
What Can't Be Donated
- Items that are broken, heavily stained, or structurally compromised
- Mattresses (most donation centers won't accept them)
- Items with mold or pest damage
Just Let Us Know
If donation is important to you, mention it when you book. We'll do our best to accommodate it. We can't always guarantee every item will be donated — it depends on condition and availability — but we'll make the effort.

Book a PickupHow to Place a Dumpster Without Damaging Your Driveway
September 30, 2025 · Ranger TrashA loaded dumpster is heavy — and if it's placed wrong, it can crack concrete or leave permanent marks on your driveway. Here's how to do it right.
Best Surfaces for Dumpster Placement
- Asphalt or concrete driveways — ideal, handles the weight well
- Gravel or packed dirt — works fine for shorter rentals
- Grass or soft ground — possible but can cause rutting, especially in wet weather
Use Boards or Plywood to Protect Concrete
If you're worried about your driveway, placing plywood boards or 2x10 planks under the dumpster legs distributes the weight and reduces the risk of cracking or surface marks — especially on older concrete.
Keep Clearance in Mind
Our delivery truck needs about 60 feet of clearance to safely drop and pick up the dumpster. Overhanging trees, power lines, and parked cars all need to be accounted for. When you book, tell us about your driveway setup and we'll advise on the best drop location.

Book a CleanoutWhat Actually Happens to Your Junk After We Pick It Up?
August 14, 2025 · Ranger TrashWe believe in being transparent about this. A lot of junk removal companies will just say "we dispose of it responsibly" and leave it at that. Here's what that actually means for us.
Usable Items → Donation
Furniture, appliances, clothing, and household goods that are still in good shape get routed to local donation centers and organizations in the Lowcountry. We'd rather give something a second life than send it to a landfill.
Recyclables → Recycling Centers
Metal, cardboard, and certain electronics are sorted and taken to the appropriate recycling facilities. Scrap metal in particular almost never ends up in a landfill — there's an entire industry built around recycling it.
Everything Else → Landfill
What genuinely can't be reused or recycled goes to a licensed disposal facility. We follow all local regulations for disposal in Beaufort and Jasper counties.
Have questions about how a specific item will be handled? Just ask when you book — we'll give you a straight answer.

Book a PickupUnderstanding Dumpster Weight Limits: How to Avoid Overage Charges
July 21, 2025 · Ranger TrashWeight overages are one of the most common surprises people encounter with dumpster rentals. Here's how to stay within your limit — or at least know when you're likely to go over.
What's Included
- 15-yard dumpster — 2 tons (4,000 lbs) included
- 30-yard dumpster — 3 tons (6,000 lbs) included
Overweight charges are $0.045 per pound over your limit.
Heavy Materials to Watch Out For
Light bulky materials like furniture and general household junk rarely cause weight issues. The problem items are dense materials:
- Concrete, brick, and masonry — extremely heavy for their size
- Asphalt shingles — heavier than they look
- Dirt and gravel
- Wet or saturated wood
A Simple Rule of Thumb
If the majority of your load is light household items, you'll almost certainly stay within the weight limit. If you're filling a dumpster primarily with concrete or roofing materials, check in with us — we may recommend upgrading to account for the weight.

Book a DumpsterHot Tub Removal in Beaufort County: What You Need to Know
June 30, 2025 · Ranger TrashHot tubs are one of the most requested — and most involved — items we remove. They're heavy, bulky, and often in awkward locations. Here's how the process works.
How We Remove a Hot Tub
Most hot tubs need to be broken down on-site before removal. We cut them into sections using reciprocating saws, which makes it possible to get them out of tight spaces like fenced backyards or screened porches where a full tub could never fit through the gate.
What We Need From You
- Make sure the tub is drained and disconnected from electricity before we arrive
- Clear a path to the tub — we'll need enough room to work around it
- Let us know if it's in a fenced area or difficult-to-access location when you book
Does It Cost Extra?
Hot tub removal typically involves additional fees due to the labor and equipment involved. We'll give you a straightforward quote before we start — no surprises. Contact us to get a price for your specific situation.
